This talk will present techniques for the analysis of 2D planar periodic metallodielectric arrays and demonstrate examples. Rigorous full-wave techniques as well as semi-analytical techniques will be presented. Synthesis procedures will be discussed that assist with obtaining the physical dimensions of metafilm surfaces given the required properties. New phenomena associated with this type of metamaterials will be presented. Applications will be overviewed, where the proposed metafilms have improved the performance of microwave and optical devices.
