The new Mountbatten Building
1 October 2007
Throughout September the Mountbatten team have continued to keep on schedule with the design and construction of the new complex.
The Bovis site team have now completed the concrete roof to the main building and the emphasis on site has changed with the construction of the clean room now becoming the critical path activity. The external cladding is now going up and approximately 10% of the patterned glazing units to the clean room plinth have now been installed. Work has also started on the cladding of the adjacent combined utilities building.
Within the clean rooms the specialist ductwork contractors, Parkers and Senior Hargreaves, have continued working at a high level in the clean room areas. IDC Clean Rooms, the clean room contractors, are now assembling the supporting structures for the research areas.
Temporary screen walls have been put up around the clean room area to ensure that dirt and dust does not get into areas that are not yet protected by external cladding.
All mains connection work, including the University’s district heating system, is now complete and no further excavation work will be necessary in the Salisbury Road area.
The project remains on target for completion in June 08 but this date now includes the installation of the furniture, fittings and fixtures. We hope that this will make the moving in process as smooth as possible during mid to late July 2008.
