Mountbatten Building Progress
April update
The construction work on site continues to move forward with increasing speed. With the piling completed in February, Keen Construction have now constructed the sub-structure and ground floor to the combined utilities building. Work has now begun on the sub-structure beneath the remaining building footprint.
Michellsons, the concrete frame contractor, commenced work on site recently. Their work on site was preceded by the erection of two substantial tower cranes needed to handle the concrete shuttering and materials required to erect the frame. Deliveries of ready-mixed concrete will begin in earnest during this month.
Cable laying works to upgrade the University's existing voice, data and security systems continues with a switchover planned for later this month.

Lakesmere, the specialist cladding contractor, have now been appointed to undertake the external cladding of the building. They will commence on site as soon as the frame has reached a suitable point in its construction, expected to be during August of this year. They will, together with other contractors, be taking up residence on site in the Bovis offices in the upper Nuffield car park, Salisbury Road.
During March the main work has been done off site by the procurement team who have taken the design and split the work into the appropriate packages allowing them to obtain tenders from specialist contractors in these fields in the construction industry. We have placed firm orders for a third of the work and have received completed tenders back for a further one third of the project. The overall procurement process will be completed in June.
The construction team continue to work hard to minimise inconvenience for those living and working nearby to the project.
